Ean was not being destroyed by a demon. Big had slammed the fridge door shut almost as soon as he’d opened it. In their panic The Gang had not realized the demon wasn’t chasing them: it was still trapped in the fridge.
Ean’s chair rocked back and forth as he struggled with the ropes binding him. He was still wobbling about unsuccessfully when JD poked his head into the apartment.
Yo, demon dude, JD said, Mind if I borrow your window ledge-? Ean? Dude! I thought you were in college. He frowned slightly. And weren’t a demon.
Ean stopped struggling and stared in shock. JD? he asked incredulously. I thought you were still overseas, doing the whole ‘career military’ thing.
JD walked into Ean’s apartment and tossed his duffel on the couch. Yeah, he said with an apologetic shrug. I got a medical discharge.
Oh, said E. I, uh, graduated. And I’m not a demon.
Cool, JD said, joining his duffel on the couch. He picked up a console controller and tossed it to Ean. What’s in?
Space Shooter, E replied.
Awesome, JD said. He picked up the other controller and booted up the console. Prepare for an ass kicking.
