Book 1, Chapter 43

Ean swallowed nervously. “Sure,” he said. Bad news was always bad news, in his experience, no matter what news came after it.

“Good,” The Boss said. “I’m afraid allegations of harassment and misconduct have been raised against you. The company has a zero tolerance policy toward such things, and investigations typically end with a permanent note in the accused individual’s HR file, followed by their summary termination.”

Ean swallowed again. “And the good news?”

“The woman involved claimed it was a misunderstanding. The person who filed it on her behalf claimed she was obviously afraid of reprisals if she did complain, so corporate was going to push through with the investigation anyway. However, you’ll be happy to know that it has been dropped.”

Ean blinked. “It has?”

“Yes,” The Boss answered. “I convinced the head office that it would be an unnecessary waste of resources on account of how you came in late today and are therefore now officially fired, regardless.”
