Book 1, Chapter 72

While Ean snuck around to the back of the house, JD waited by the car. When Ean tossed a grappling hook around the house’s weather vane, JD checked his watch in boredom. Then, while Ean was congratulating himself on his plan and slowly scaling the wall, JD walked up to the house’s front door.

JD knocked twice, and Ean’s mom answered.

“Hi, Mrs. E,” JD said. “Can I come in?”

Mrs. E blinked behind her glasses. “JD? Of course,” she said.

“Oooo,” JD said as he stepped into the house. “Is that fresh baked pie I smell?”
