JD was driving. Night had fallen, and he and Ean were still hours away from the city, on some nameless country back road.

The car abruptly screeched to a halt.

“What the-” Ean started to say.

“We stopped,” JD informed him. “Do you think it’s because we’re hauling too much pie?”

Ean gave JD an incredulous look. “No, I-”

“Because I could eat some more,” JD interrupted him again. “If you think it’s the pie.”
