Book 2, Chapter 013

Ean gaped at Sakura, a little stunned from having his usual sentiments thrown back at him by someone else.  "What?" he protested.

Sakura shrugged sheepishly.  "I am what I am," she said, "And that means if we get involved, well, eventually you would come to the attention of some dark and shadowy forces.  It would be…horribly irresponsible of me to put your life in danger like that."

Her smile didn’t slip, but her eyes grew sad as she came to the same realization Ean used to excuse his phobia of relationships.

"The things in my life…" she said.  "I have no right to involve anyone else in them.  Anyone who isn’t as dangerous and capable as myself will be in grave danger, eventually.  Just from being near me."

She looked into Ean’s eyes.  "I hope you understand.  That’s why I’m leaving."
